A *massive* amount of work has been done to the car since June 16th. The
entire suspension was removed and the whole underside of the frame and
chassis was cleaned, wire brushed and re-painted/undercoated.
The drive shaft, half shafts and all the suspension parts were hot tanked
and powder coated black. The stock bolts and fastener have all been zinc
plated.
All new brake lines, new binders and E-brake cables have been installed,
plus a new gas tank (GM still sells these, cool :-)
The rear end has been completely rebuilt using all new HD spider gears,
new 3.70 ring and pinion and an all new posi clutch pack and springs. Also,
the carrier has been stress relieved and polished to hopefully keep it
from cracking on launches.
The M21 has been completely overhauled with beefier components as well. A
larger diameter steel drive shaft from a 72(?) with larger yolks is being
installed as well. New Spicer non-lubed u-joints have also been installed.
Bilstien shocks are on all four cornes now, along with new front F41
gymkhana coil springs.
New offset trailing arms from Vette Brakes and a shortend Guldstrand
rear steel spring have been installed - I have hopes of stuffing a 10"
tire under the stock rear fenders with custom offset Torque Thrust II
17x9.5" wheels. Dunno if this will work or not yet, but it's worth a
try...
The car is being retrofit with power brakes, so a new clutch/brake pedal
assm. was purchased from a junk yard and a new master cylinder and vacuum
booster are being installed.
All new wheel bearing and bullet proof wheel spindles have also been bolted
onto the car.
The steering column and the steering box have been completely rebuilt, and
the column re-painted.
The new/old pedals and master cylinder/booster assm are being put on the car
along with the remainder of the suspension this week.
Also in the queue for this week is a Lakewood scattershield, new MTBE proof
teflon braided and hard fuel lines and some other odds and ends.
Next week, the engine and transmission go back in the car, the MSD ignition
gets installed, and the new Griffin radiator, fan and shroud all go on.
The car might be ready for an initial light off and debugging on 9/25, it's
a bit hard to tell at this point.
Because I have been asked so many times, here is my 383's cam card. It's a bit hard to find
on the page (which I will be seriously overhauling soon).
